Pastoral Socio-Anthropological Observatory (OSAP)

Aimed at gathering, processing, and developing studies or consultations in order to have diagnoses and understand the signs of the times in Latin America and the Caribbean based on testimonies, experiences, evidence, and accumulated knowledge.

Work Lines

To fulfill its function, OSAP advances in two major lines of action:

  1. Develop research in partnership with universities and observatories linked to the Church, focusing on priority issues.
  2. Lead the Network of Observatories of Reality linked to the Latin American and Caribbean Church. This new ecclesial network is a space to “discern the signs of the times” in synodality.

CALL FOR RESEARCH 2026

CELAM invites teams from universities, observatories, and context analysis leaders linked to the Church to submit research project proposals to be developed in 2026.

The purpose is to deepen the understanding of priority realities in our region and illuminate them from the perspective of faith and the Church's Social Doctrine.

The selected proposals evaluated according to the established Terms of Reference will receive an incentive of 8,000 USD, and the results of the studies will be disseminated at the continental level.

Apply before January 31, 2026, and contribute to making science serve the Common Good!
